New reports coming out of Japan claim that plutonium has been discovered at a site near one of the earthquake stricken nuclear plants. According to an operator at the Tokyo Electric Power Company nuclear plant, plutonium has been detected in the ground at five different places around the facility. A spokesman for the plant said, "Of the samples from five locations, we believe that there is a high possibility that at least two of them are directly linked with the current reactor accident”. After hearing this new report, France offered to help with its nuclear groups Areva and EDF. Although plutonium was detected it is not considered serious and similar levels of plutonium were found in neighboring countries China and North Korea. According to the United States environmental protection agency, internal exposure to plutonium is much more serious than external exposure. The main concern right now in regards to the nuclear plant is reactor number three because it contains a mix of uranium and plutonium which when exposed to humans, remains in the body for years and almost surely will result in cancer. In the wake of the recent events in Japan, the International Atomic Energy Agency has called for a top-level summit in an effort to learn more about the current nuclear crisis in Japan.
