1. What are the basic teachings of Hinduism?
Hinduism is a very complex religion. There are however 5 basic ideas that make up Hinduism. These basic guidelines are Karma and Reincarnation, Freedom of Spiritual Practice, The necessity of seeking God, to enrich one’s life, and promoting harmony and love. Karma and reincarnation is one of the most important basic teachings. According to Hinduism individuals are re-born after death to continue their spiritual journey to God. A person’s karma is then brought over with them in their new life so a spiritual lesson can be learned.
2. What aspects of Hinduism do you like?
My favorite aspect of Hinduism is that it allows for a freedom of spiritual practice. This means that Hindus are tolerant of other beliefs and ideologies because they believe that everyone is progressing towards a spiritual apotheosis. I like this idea because it means that Hindus are accepting of everyone’s different views and beliefs.
3. What aspects of Hinduism do you find confusing?
The first aspect of Hinduism I find confusing is that the religion has over 300 million gods. I don’t understand how someone could actually name and remember 300 million different gods. This seems like an irrational idea and instead the Hindus should but their list down to a few hundred gods. Another reason why Hinduism is so confusing because it supports the view that there could be multiple facets of the same truth. One more reason that Hinduism is confusing is that it is a religion that grew from an accumulation of knowledge and experience over time.
