Over the past few months, India has fell victim to many devastating flooding events. These floods have caused numerous problems in India but none greater than where and what to do with the people that have been affected by the floods. With a population just north of 1 billion people, India is already an overcrowded country but when you add in the floods which have affected widespread parts of the country you begin to have a major overcrowding problem. A CNN news article reported that over 200 people have lost their lives from these flash floods and about 500 people are missing or unaccounted for. Another major issue surrounding these floods is how to get help to those who are affected. India is still a developing country and does not have the infrastructure too effectively and efficiently search and rescue people. Even if they did have the necessary resources to conduct such searches it would still be a daunting task. Take the US after Hurricane Katrina for example. The United States without a question has the best resources in the world to conduct a search and rescue mission and yet they still had difficulty rescuing people. The next question revolving around this issue is how India will redevelop this land. As mentioned earlier, India is an overcrowded country so they must use this land in some capacity even though it is prone to flooding and mudslides. With the many issues facing India today, it is a big question as to whether or not India will be able to re develop this land and put citizens back into homes in a timely manner.
