During the past week the British royal family has announced that Prince William will marry longtime girlfriend Kate Middleton. Prince William is the eldest son of Charles and is the second in line to the thrown behind his father. He is also the brother of Prince Harry. The date of the wedding was announced early this week and it will be on April 29, 2011 at St. Jame’s Palace. Over two thousands guests are expected to attend the wedding and billions are expected to watch it on TV. It is expected to be the most watched wedding in England since Prince Charles married Lady Diana in 1981. Across England, Wales, and Northern Ireland workers will get this day off. Something that was interesting to me was that although the Royal family and the Middleton’s will pay for the wedding, reception, and honeymoon, the public will pay for the security at the wedding and the extra police details which is expected to amount to $5 million £. Although this surely will be a happy day for the Prince William and Kate, not everyone is smiling. Since all workers in the UK were given the day off, April 29 was officially deemed a bank holiday. Because of this it is projected that this will cost the UK upwards of 6 billion £. This has many businessmen in the UK scratching their heads as to why the couple picked this date for their wedding especially when it falls between Easter Friday and Easter Monday both are observed holidays. Although it will be a memorable day in British history not everyone will be happy.
