For just about the last ten years the USA has been fighting two wars one in Afghanistan and one in Iraq. During this time some of the brave and honorable men and women have lost their life, but many more have survived and returned home. When these soldiers return home they face many issues. Some of the issues they face are finding jobs and dealing with mental or physical injuries they suffered when serving their country. The United States Department of Veterans Affairs is in charge of helping these veterans who return home. Some of the functions of this Department are to find jobs for veterans treat post-traumatic stress disorders and or other wounds or injuries both physical and mental, give pensions to veterans or a family of a soldier who did not return home, and give health insurance at little to no cost. Under the G.I bill the Department of Veteran Affairs will also pay college tuition for a veteran who serves. In my opinion we should do everything possible for these veterans who fight for the freedoms and liberties that we have. With that said, I believe that we are doing a sufficient job in caring for these veterans who return home after serving. Some smaller things that we could do to honor veterans not only on Veteran’s day but every day is to attend a parade, attend a memorial service for a veteran or active duty member, fly an American flag on the front of your house, or even just thank a veteran for their service.
